Kansas City Chiefs DT Chris Jones has no one but himself to blame for Week 2's stat correction.
Jones was credited with a half-sack against Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow, which he split with DE George Karlaftis. The sack came on third down in the second quarter, killing a drive and forcing a field goal attempt from Evan McPherson. No. 95 was mic'd up for the game, and the team released a clip from that episode where Jones pointed the league in the direction of the play.
"They gave me half of George's sack," Jones said, on the bench, after the sack occurred. "Let's go! You took one from Russell Wilson — from me. I had my hand on him. He went down."
"You can have it," Karlaftis said.
"Thank you," Jones responded.
"I didn't — you didn't give me anything," Jones said. "I had my hand on him."
Well, sure enough, NFL Network's Tom Pellisero reports that the league issued a stat correction after the fact and gave Karlaftis the full sack.
Chris Jones' hilarious reaction to the NFL's decision
Now, this type of correction this early in the season probably doesn't have any meaningful impact outside of fantasy football, but Jones certainly wasn't pleased about it.
He took to X (formerly Twitter) to complain about the NFL's ruling.
Jones might end up throwing hands with whatever NFL media personnel attempts to mic him up for a game again. It's bad enough that this erased a half-sack against his quarterback nemesis, but can you imagine if this had happened during the 2023 NFL season when he was chasing sack incentives in his contract?
Thankfully, Karlaftis was able to calm Jones down with a peace offering. He's treating Jones to a meal to help subside his hunger for QB sacks.
