The Kansas City Chiefs will have to hire a new coordinator for the first tie since the 2019 offseason, when they fired both Bob Sutton, the defensive coordinator, and hired Steve Spagnuolo, who is now the defensive coordinator.
The season before the 2019 offseason, was Eric Bieniemy's first as an offensive coordinator for the Chiefs, as he was their running backs coach in 2017.
Bieniemy was on the staff in 2018 but was a running backs coach, and they elevated him to the position he has had since. But, as you may know by now, Bieniemy is no longer with the team.
The two-time Super Bowl champion as an offensive coordinator has accepted the same job for the Washington Commanders, where he will call the plays. This new job will allow him to prove himself.
But, now leaves the question as to who will replace Bieniemy as the Chiefs' offensive coordinator in 2023, and, I think I know exactly who will.
In case you forgot what happened last offseason, the Chiefs lost their quarterback coach Mike Kafka to the Giants who made him their offensive coordinator and hired former Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy and former Bears head coach as the quarterback coach.
Nagy is exactly who I think will get the job. He has been in Reid's offense before and actually was somewhat successful. He has a relationship with Mahomes and already knows the playbook along with everyone else on the staff.
The only thing we haven't seen yet is him and Mahomes working together with Nagy as offensive coordinator.
Nagy's last year as OC in Kansas City was in 2017, and he was so good that he actually got a job with the Bears as their head coach.
In 2017, Nagy's last year with Kansas City as the OC, the Chiefs finished seventh in points per game, scoring 25 a game, per Teamrankings.com.
I don't think there will even be anyone else considered for the job.
