The Kansas City Chiefs took a flier on the local kid just a year ago when they drafted defensive end Felix Anudike-Uzomah with the 31st overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. He didn't produce much during his rookie season but did have a few big plays in the postseason, including one tackle for loss in the Super Bowl.
But, considering where he was drafted, fans have not been the most impressed with where his production was going into year two. He was a first-round pick, and fans are waiting for first-round pick production to follow. Of course, last season he played behind George Karlaftis, Mike Danna, and Charles Omenihu for a large portion of the year.
Going into 2024, FAU will be behind those same players, for maybe the same exact amount of time. Omenihu missed time last season due to a suspension to start the season last year, and of course the injury in the postseason. That injury could have Omenihu out for a few weeks to start 2024.
That will be the perfect time to show how much he has improved. He will then be thrust into that edge three role, where he is the third pass rusher on the edge whether it be left or right side, whoever comes out ahead of him will be the player he is subbing in for. That's a great time to show he is better than people think.
From everything we are hearing, FAU has improved drastically this offseason.
“Absolutely, I think Felix [Anudike-Uzomah], you can see the difference between year one and year two," Karlaftis said on Friday. "He wants it. I think there are great things ahead of him… Just like I said, it’s been night and day for him to come out just like you said, last year he was dealing with a couple of things and now to see him having a year of experience under his belt and an offseason and all that kind of stuff. He was a great addition, and he is a great addition and I think he’s going to be great for us this year.”
FAU worked with Chiefs Hall of Famer Tamba Hali this offseason, a guy we saw George Karlaftis also work with, and it took his game to the next level as well. Hali is one of the best pass rushers and best technical rushers the Chiefs have had and is the perfect guy for FAU to work with when he isn't with the Chiefs.
Anudike-Uzomah has been working relentlessly. Now, that may not translate right away. But, for fans to hear what Karlaftis has to say, a guy who was in a similar situation as a rookie with Frank Clark ahead of him – has to feel good.
