You can always tell that the Kansas City Chiefs are the right team to be a dynasty because of the egos on the team. Whether it’s Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, or Chris Jones — all three are all-time greats — those guys don’t have egos. They didn’t have egos, and they still don’t even after the winning.

The best example of that was on Sunday in the loss to the Tennessee Titans. The season is over, there’s no Mahomes, no shot at the playoffs, and only losing would benefit this team more. Yet, Jones feels obligated to go out there and play every snap and be the leader he is.

Chiefs DT Chris Jones talks leadership after Titans loss

“I think my job doesn’t change on this team,” Jones told reporters after the game. “I’m still who I am, no matter if the record was 0-16. I still play the game with passion. I still love what I do. I’m still going out there, fired up every play, every opportunity I’m on the field, and everybody else on defense. It’s not our job to predict the situation.

“We’re in a very unfortunate situation where sometimes you can’t control it, and it’s okay. You know, you can finish strong. You can worry about the things you can control, which are your attitude and your effort. You know, a lot of people can talk when they’re up. It’s about those who have character when you’re down or when you’re not in a favorable position.”

What’s crazy is, you’d think a guy like Jones, who’s won three Super Bowls, would let his foot off the gas in a game like this. He’s playing a two-win team, with really nothing on the line. Yet, he went out and actually had a terrific game. He was in the dudes face on the other team, yelling and talking his trash while also backing up his teammates.

That’s a powerful message from Jones. But what’s important is that they carry that over into the offseason and into next season. Don’t let this losing thing become something that you’re comfortable with. Jones, Kelce, and Mahomes won’t let that happen, even if Kelce isn’t on the team next season.
