Chiefs, Broncos

The Kansas City Chiefs fought off a tough Denver Broncos squad in what could have gone either way. Had the Broncos won, there would be a narrative the Chiefs would have been a part of. Instead, they destroyed that.

The game was much closer than it should have been. I mean, let's be honest here, the Chiefs are not playing their best football. Yeah, they are winning, but the games shouldn't be this close.

Just take a look at the first time these two teams played. In Week 14, the Kansas City Chiefs went up 27-0, but the Broncos had enough energy to fight back and score 21 unanswered points. The Chiefs still won, but barely.

This game was a bit weird, too. The Chiefs only won 27-24, and it should have been much larger.

There is one reason the Broncos may have played so well, though. And, that same reason is a narrative the Chiefs seemed to escape.

There is this idea, and it's mostly true, that when a team fires their head coach, that next game the team usually plays well and most of the time wins. They play for their former head coach, or they play for their new head coach. Both happen.

Usually, it fires the team up, and they play better. I think we all know that. And usually, they win. This game was different.

Yes, the Broncos did play well, and possibly because of that, but they didn't win, and the Chiefs escaped being a part of that narrative and that joke. Had the Chiefs lost to Denver, that would have been pretty bad.

The Chiefs destroyed a narrative that was heading their way if they lost to the Broncos. Did they destroy the Broncos though? No. This game should not have been this close, and they need to fix some of these issues before the playoffs start.
