Of course, we will always think about what the offense did because they are so elite. Oh, and they have the polarizing figure that is your Super Bowl MVP in Patrick Mahomes.
But, the defense made some huge adjustments that you can say are the reason this team won the Super Bowl. Remember when the Eagles were gashing the Chiefs in the run game?
And then on third down, they would get a huge play? Yeah, Chris Jones was on the sideline yelling, and he had enough.
"I think we made a few adjustments on the back end and most importantly on the front end, the 1st third down, we had an offsides with Frank Clark which resulted in a touchdown," Jones said on the NFL Network desk. "Then we got in the red zone, fourth down, fourth and four.
"We had another d-lineman jump offsides which alluded to another touchdown, so we stopped shooting ourselves in the feet. We honed in on a quarterback draw. So this wasn't a game of sacks, this was the game of collapsing the pocket, We collapsed the pocket forced on the throw from the pocket and we were able to succeed with that."
The Chiefs were able to lock down and do what needed to be done after that. They didn't have any more penalties in the second half.
They didn't allow the Eagles to keep gashing them like they were before. Things kept happening, and the Chiefs made sure those things stopped happening.
The defense won't get the recognition they deserve, but they definitely deserve some of it.
Just think, without the fumble recovery for a touchdown, and the second forced punt which resulted in a huge punt return, the Chiefs wouldn't have even been in the game.
They are a huge reason the Chiefs are now three-time Super Bowl Champions.
