Kansas City Chiefs, AFC West, Division

This year has been a bit different than the last few for the Kansas City Chiefs. Obviously, yes, there was a big trade that happened, and the whole offense changed it up a bit, and let's also not forget a major draft, too.

However, none of those things are really what I'm talking about.

In the past, the Chiefs got all the praise. That's what happens when you win a Super Bowl. A few years after, you are always a contender to win it. The Chiefs have been preseason favorites to win the Super Bowl the last few years.

This year, they definitely don't get the same love as before.

I don't know if it's fatigue, or what. Maybe national media is getting tired of the Chiefs being so good every year. However, this year for some reason it doesn't feel like that's the narrative.

It feels like the narrative is that Kansas City won't be good.

Luckily, the Chiefs finally get the long end of the stick, as opposed to getting the short end all offseason.

Now, there are people voting for them.

The Athletic votes Chiefs to finish first in the division

This may be the toughest the AFC West division has ever been. In 2022, there is a possibility some really good teams in this division could miss the playoffs. There is also a chance three of them could make it.

The Athletic recently got 43 beat writers to vote on who they thought would win the division. It seems like some people still have a little faith in the Chiefs.

22 of the 43 writers voted for the Chiefs to finish first.

I don't see how you can't pick the Chiefs, or at least think about it. They have won a record six straight AFC West division titles. The odds are obviously in their favor.

19 of the 43 voted for the Chargers.

This one I can see as well. The Chargers have a lot of hype coming into the season, and rightfully so. Justin Herbert is only getting better, and they have one of the most complete rosters in football.

2 of the 43 writers voted for the Denver Broncos.

I think the Broncos have a chance at winning the division, but not a higher chance than the two above them. The Chiefs have their number. They haven't beaten Kansas City since September 15, 2015. So, at this point, I need to see them beat the best to be the best.

And if you can do math right, you probably guessed the Raiders had zero votes to finish in first place.

Their offensive line may be one of the worst in the NFL. Without that, their star players on the offense can't operate well. If Derek Carr doesn't have time, there are no star players to throw to.

The Chiefs are finally getting the respect they deserve, and it feels good. Now, they have to make sure they prove everyone else wrong this season.
