The Kansas City Chiefs are in unfamiliar territory heading into the 2022 AFC Championship game. They have been to the championship game for five straight years now, so that's nothing new.
But, they have been put in a position where they are used to. They are officially the underdogs. Yes, I know, they are hosting the championship game, as the one seed, and are still one-point underdogs.
Why? Well, it does make sense. Patrick Mahomes is dealing with a bad ankle, the Chiefs barely beat the Jaguars, the Bengals have beaten Kansas City three times in a row, and beat the Buffalo Bills pretty handily.
The Bengals are a legit threat, we aren't saying that they aren't. But, the Chiefs have never been the underdog in these situations. So, this is new, and it will only help the, out.
Imagine they worked so hard all year to get the number one seed, have the best record in the league, well tied for, and host your fifth straight championship game, but you won't win.
Wouldn't that fire you up?
Then there are power rankings out there that have the Chiefs ranked below the Bengals, which is fair, the Eagles, and the 49ers. Some power rankings like Around the NFL ranked the Chiefs as the worst team remaining in the playoff pool.
The Chiefs have everything against them, but that should fuel them. That should give them a reason to want to win even more. Knowing this team, they are going to come out hot. This is a team that is tired of everything everyone has been saying. They are tired of everyone doubting them and picking the Bengals.
When an Andy Reid-led team is angry, they will be tough to deal with, and I don't think anyone would rebuttal that. The rest of the NFL world, media, fans, and the other teams messed up. They really did, because they gave the most dangerous man in the NFL in Patrick Mahomes a reason to play even harder.
