The Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers have released their first injury report ahead of Week 15’s game at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

The Chargers get a short week after defeating the Philadelphia Eagles on “Monday Night Football.” However, both teams are coming off of primetime performances, with the Chiefs dropping a game against the Houston Texans on “Sunday Night Football.” It should come as no surprise that both teams are pretty banged up, late in the season, with some pretty significant injuries and absences. That said, the Chiefs are looking a little healthier than expected after the Week 14 loss.

Here’s a quick breakdown of the first injury reports for each team in Week 15.

Observations

  • A full participation practice for Trey Smith bodes well for the starting right guard to make his return in Week 15. He’s been out with ankle injuries since the Week 12 game against the Colts. It should provide a much-needed boost with the team tracking to be without Jawaan Taylor and Wanya Morris.
  • Speaking of Morris, the Chiefs didn’t move him to injured reserve yet. It’s unclear if they plan to do so at this time.
  • The Chiefs seemingly dodged a bullet with CB Trent McDuffie, who suffered a hyperextended knee in Week 14 vs. the Texans. How he responds in practice tomorrow will be the key to whether or not he can play in Week 15.
  • Nikko Remigio is back at practice after missing Week 14 with a concussion suffered during practice last Friday. That bodes well for his chances to return in Week 15.

Observations

  • The Chargers are about as bad off on the offensive line as Kansas City, missing both starters and potentially one depth piece at offensive tackle. They’ll be down to their third and fifth options at left and right tackle if Trey Pipkins (current starting RT) is unable to play in Week 15.
  • Los Angeles also has an injury in the secondary, with starter Elijah Molden dealing with a hamstring injury. That could force Derwin James into a more traditional safety role with UDFA rookie CB Nikko Reed playing more snaps in the slot.
