As the most critical position in the sport, the quarterback is always the big focus of the NFL draft.
The Kansas City Chiefs are one of the NFL's lucky teams to have figured out the quarterback position with Patrick Mahomes, so they don't have to worry so much about it. However, many other NFL teams are still searching for a player they can call their franchise quarterback.
This year's quarterback class isn't considered particularly strong, but that could benefit the Chiefs. Miami's Cam Ward is projected to be the No. 1 overall pick, but how the position plays out afterward could depend on several factors.
Ultimately, Chiefs fans should root for teams to have varied valuations of the quarterback class. They'll want as many quarterbacks as possible to be selected in the first round. Two particular reasons for that come to mind. First, it will push more players down to pick No. 31 at positions of need. Second, it could raise a trade opportunity at the end of the first round.
Steelers' interest in Alabama QB Jalen Milroe could be a boon for Kansas City
While Pittsburgh still has some quarterback options in free agency, such as Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers, the team must find a quarterback in the 2025 NFL draft to complement them.
New reports indicate that the Steelers' brass hosted Alabama QB Jalen Milroe for dinner before his Wednesday pro day with the Crimson Tide. NFL Network's Tom Pelissero specifically mentioned the Steelers' first-round draft pick, No. 21, in his report on Milroe's dinner with Pittsburgh.
If Mike Tomlin and the Steelers like Milroe, he could be the pick at No. 21 because they might not get another shot at taking him if they wait. Pittsburgh doesn't currently have a second-round draft pick in 2025 due to the DK Metcalf trade. That makes trading up to the Chiefs' pick at No. 31 (or any pick at the back of the first round) pretty tough because it'll take players or future draft capital to make it happen.
If Pitt were to go with Milroe at 21, that'd be good news for the Chiefs' chances of having an interior defensive lineman or offensive tackle drop to them at the end of Round 1. Especially when you consider the New York Giants and Cleveland Browns, plus a few other surprise teams, could also be in the market for a first-round quarterback.
