It only took most of the first half, but the Kansas City Chiefs officially have secured the first touchdown of the 2024-2025 postseason. It couldn't have gone to a player with a better story.
After a 49-yard reception from Chiefs TE Travis Kelce set the team up in the red zone, the team handed the ball off a few times to get things to the one-yard line. With just a yard to go, the Chiefs handed the ball off to none other than RB Kareem Hunt, who followed a lead block from Kelce for the score.
Check it out:
Hunt, of course, rejoined the Chiefs this season after being released by the team in 2018 due to his handling of off-field issues. While Hunt played in the postseason with the Chiefs in 2017, he has never had an opportunity to play in a postseason game with Patrick Mahomes. He missed out on all the success the team had over the past several seasons, and this was a huge motivating factor for his return to the team.
You can see just how excited Hunt's teammates were for him to take home the first score of the postseason.
Hunt now has become just the third player in NFL history with a rushing touchdown in each of his first five career playoff games. He joins Pro Football Hall of Fame RBs Terrell Davis (first six) and Chris Martin (first five). Hunt has six total touchdowns in the postseason during his NFL career.
Hopefully, the Chiefs continue to ride the hot hand here and keep handing the ball off to Hunt.
