The Kansas City Chiefs completed their first practice session ahead of Week 16's game against the Houston Texans.

The big story surrounding the team is QB Patrick Mahomes' ankle injury. Andy Reid said the plan would be to simply see how Mahomes did in practice this week. Mahomes indicated that this ankle injury was less severe than the one he had during the 2022-2023 playoffs. Well, the first injury report of the week would certainly suggest it.

Mahomes was listed as a full participant in practice on Tuesday, which is a very good sign. However, there is one caveat. The Chiefs' first practice of the week is traditionally a light one without pads, helmets, and the like. It's closer to a walkthrough than the rigors a player might go through in a padded training camp practice. That's to say that It's not all that surprising that Mahomes was considered a full participant. Wednesday's practice will be much more telling in terms of how far along Mahomes actually is.

What might be more concerning is the look on Mahomes' face as he went to test his ankle in warm-ups, which the Kansas City Star shared. He's clearly in some serious discomfort.

Here's a look at the first injury reports of the week for both the Chiefs and Texans. . .

  • Chiefs WR Hollywood Brown was a full participant in practice on Tuesday. He was limited in his first practice session back on Friday.
  • Chiefs C Creed Humphrey is the only player listed with a "new" injury. He has an ankle injury but was a full participant in practice.
  • With D.J. Humphries listed as a non-participant, expect Joe Thuney and Mike Caliendo to start at LT/LG again this week
  • With Chamarri Conner dealing with a concussion, Chris Roland-Wallace should see an expanded role on Saturday.
