According to a recent report, there is a huge possibility the Kansas City Chiefs could be back in the mix for a five-time Pro-Bowler, and a guy they were connected with a lot at the beginning of the NFL offseason.
Since then, things have died down and the Chiefs were reportedly out. Now, things have changed. The Arizona Cardinals have been trying to trade wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins for a while now. He is a guy who, when healthy, is one of the best in the league, and I don't think there is any arguing that.
The Chiefs need another number-one receiver, as they lost theirs, JuJu Smith-Schuster, in free agency to the New England Patriots. The original plan was to bring the same group of receivers back, but that plan has obviously fallen through.
Now, according to a report from Albert Breer of Monday Morning Quarterback, things are getting hard for Arizona. “There’s nobody who was willing to take on Hopkins contract and pay the #Cardinals initial asking price," Breer said.
Now some NFL teams think the Cardinals could release Hopkins, which immediately puts the Chiefs back in the mix.
If he were to be released, you can almost guarantee that the Chiefs would be a team on his list. They just won a Super Bowl, would be super flexible with a contract, have a wide receiver one spot open, and of course, have Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes.
The pairing would be amazing, and it would likely put the Chiefs back in a position to repeat as Super Bowl champions if they weren't there already.
