Last year the Kansas City Chiefs found a gem of a player in Isiah Pacheco in the seventh round of the draft. He ended up taking the starting job from Clyde Edwards-Helaire when CEH got hurt, and it ended up being better for the Chiefs.
CEH was once a first-round pick for the Chiefs, something they don't do – draft running backs in the first round – and was not too bad during his time as a starter. But now he is likely to start the 2023 season on the bench, because why sit the hitman that just won the Super Bowl and had an impressive postseason?
Now, there is a possibility that CEH, the former first-round pick, could be traded away. Sportsbetting.Ag has Clyde Edwards-Helaire at +700 odds to be traded on draft night. Austin Ekeler, Dalvin Cook, Derrick Henry, and Lamar Jackson all have higher odds.
This is interesting too, because Albert Breer, who is an NFL insider for Sports Illustrated, said that he has heard the Chiefs are interested in taking Jahmyr Gibbs, the running back from Alabama, in the first round. It doesn't make sense unless they are wanting to trade away CEH.
This is definitely something to monitor on Thursday.
