UPDATE: Smith-Schuster was officially ruled out just before the end of the third quarter.

The Kansas City Chiefs' arrogance at the wide receiver position has left them dangerously thin at the position in Week 7 against the San Francisco 49ers.

With just over four minutes to go in the first quarter against the San Francisco 49ers, the Chiefs ruled WR JuJu Smith-Schuster questionable to return with a hamstring injury.  He cut on a route and his hamstring gave out on him. He walked to the sideline under his own power.

Smith-Schuster suffered a hamstring "spasm" during Thursday's practice and was limited. He practiced in a limited capacity again on Friday

Andy Reid said the following about Smith-Schuster and the potential of elevating a WR to the 53-man roster ahead of the Week 7 game against the 49ers:

"Yeah, I think he'll be fine," Reid told reporters. "We'll see. I mean, we're gonna list (JuJu Smith-Schuster) as questionable just, just in case something comes up. But he did good today, so we'll see how he does tomorrow, right? But he was good today."

The Chiefs opted against elevating any receivers from the practice squad for the game, so they're left with just four healthy wide receivers:

  • WR Xavier Worthy
  • WR Justin Watson
  • WR Mecole Hardman
  • WR Skyy Moore

Kansas City, of course, already has WRs Hollywood Brown and Rashee Rice on season-ending injured reserve.

Smith-Schuster remained on the sideline without a helmet as the Chiefs returned to the field late in the first quarter. It appears they'll have to get it done with the receivers they have and rely on running backs and tight ends to do the rest in Week 7.
