The Kansas City Chiefs had one of the better years on the defensive side of the ball in a long time. They finished second in sacks on the regular season with 55 and ended up making plays throughout the playoffs that won them games.
Even the six rookies on defense that played valuable minutes had big plays like interceptions, or pass breakups. This defense reached another level when it was time to come up clutch.
A big reason why is because of the veteran leadership. This team is extremely young. In fact, they are the third youngest team in the league per Spotrac.com. The veteran leadership by guys like Frank Clark, and Chris Jones, who both had good years.
Clark had a good year, Jones had a great year. But, Clark was also struggling with something that he later shared after the Super Bowl win.
"I'm just excited man. Just overfilled with joy you know, had a rough, had a rough year man," Clark said as confetti fell to the terrible turf. "Been a rough year for me man. Just my teammates, they never lost faith in me, man. I'm just thankful man, I'm extremely humbled and thankful.
"I'm just thankful man. I got some of the best teammates in the world bro and just being able to come out here man, a lot of adversity in the first half to come out there in the second half and fix our mistakes and fix it with two time. It's a blessing man. I know my pops, my pops smiling man, I wish you could see it you know, but I know he's smiling man. I've been going through a lot in the last few days but it makes sense now. It makes sense bro. It makes sense man."
In 2018, Frank Clark's father passed away tragically in a house fire in Cleveland, Ohio. This game meant a lot to him, especially when you factor in how good he has been in his career during the playoffs.
Clark shared why he has been having a difficult year, and it makes so much sense. Imagine trying to play with something of that magnitude weighing you down. It would be nearly impossible, yet he was still Mr. February.
No matter how he plays, where he goes, or what happens, Frank Clark will always be a part of Chiefs Kingdom.
