The Kansas City Chiefs are preparing to face the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.
After Sunday's game goes final, they'll quickly turn their attention to free agency. Believe it or not, we're hardly over a month away from the NFL's legal negotiating period ahead of free agency. Brett Veach and the Chiefs' front office will have a lot of work to do with over two dozen pending free agents for the 2025 NFL season.
ESPN NFL Insiders Dan Graziano and Jeremy Fowler recently compiled a rumors and buzz article about everything they're hearing from Super Bowl LIX. The top nugget about the Chiefs surrounds their prized free agent acquisition in 2024, who has proven his value to multiple teams since recently returning to the lineup after injury.
Top AFC rival could be Chiefs' biggest competition to re-signing WR Hollywood Brown
Just two weeks after the Chiefs dispatched the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game to advance to Super Bowl LIX, rumors about free agency are heating up.
We already know that K.C. will have a tough time keeping Trey Smith and Nick Bolton, but what of the top 2024 free agent acquisition, Marquise 'Hollywood' Brown? Fowler spoke with people during the week leading up to Super Bowl LIX that believe the Bills might take a run at the speedy wideout.
The Chiefs very much want to keep receiver Hollywood Brown, who should have a good market due to teams' desire for speed options on the outside. Mahomes advocated for signing Brown last year and will likely do so again. Will another star quarterback — like Josh Allen — be next? People with the Chiefs I spoke to this week believe that Allen has long wanted to play with Brown. – ESPN NFL Insider Jeremy Fowler
Brown signed a one-year deal with Kansas City this past offseason worth up to $6.5 million. He's appeared in just four total games this season after suffering a sternoclavicular joint injury in the opening offensive snap of the preseason. He's recorded 12 receptions for 126 yards in those four games and is still searching for his first TD with Kansas City.
Asked about his pending free agency in the week leading up to Super Bowl LIX, Brown told reporters that it's the furthest thing from his mind.
"I mean, I'm not even thinking about it," Brown said. "I'm thinking about a Super Bowl right now. So, that's all I can really think about. I'm not really thinking about after this game. My focus is on the game. And, you know, after that, then I can refocus."
Keeping players becomes increasingly difficult when your team has more and more success. Brown isn't the only pending free agent wideout in Kansas City, but he could wind up as the most coveted by teams should he reach free agency.
