The Kansas City Chiefs have been missing one position in particular and had yet to fill it, until Tuesday.
Sure, we know that the Chiefs need receiver depth, a right tackle, edge rushers, and interior defenders. But, one thing we haven't really talked about is who exactly would replace Chad Henne, who retired as soon as the Super Bowl was over.
Henne was great as a backup. Anytime he came in, he did exactly what he was supposed to do, including twice in the playoffs. Against the Cleveland Browns when Mahomes came out with a possible concussion.
Against the Jaguars when Mahomes injured his ankle, Henne came in and led a 99-yard touchdown drive.
They need a guy who can do that. He doesn't have to be otherworldly, he just has to do his job.
The Chiefs got a guy who can do that. On Tuesday, Nate Taylor of The Athletic confirmed they signed Blaine Gabbert to a one-year deal.
Gabbert was just the backup quarterback for Tom Brady in Tampa Bay. He gets to go from one GOAT to the next. Lucky him.
