The Kansas City Chiefs dealt with an issue during rookie minicamps and have everything looking better now.
When the Chiefs drafted Felix Anudike-Uzomah at pick No. 31, it shocked everyone, including myself. Sure, he is a KC native and always dreamed of playing for the franchise, but I was sure they would go in a different direction; rather, it was a receiver, right tackle, or even a different defensive line player.
But, Anudike-Uzomah is going to be great. He fits what the Chiefs want to do and is a guy the fans will love. But he had an issue when rookie minicamps kicked off not too long ago – he was hurt and didn't have his helmet on when every other rookie did.
We later figured out he had a thumb injury and a hamstring. On Thursday, in the latest media availability, head coach Andy Reid gave everyone an update on the Chiefs' recent first-round pick.
"Yeah, he is," Reid told the media when asked if he is better. "He had that thumb surgery and then that hamstring too, and so he's worked through all that. He's back in the swing, and it looks like he's feeling better every day."
Anudike-Uzomah will be a vital part of this Chiefs' defense. He will play the "edge 3" role, similar to what George Karlaftis did last year. He won't be the starter because Charles Omenihu and Karlaftis have those spots taken, but he will play a lot.
You never want to hear about your first-round pick being hurt in such a crucial year as the one the Chiefs have coming up. So, to hear that he is doing better is such a sigh of relief.
