The Kansas City Chiefs are hosting former Baltimore Ravens RB J.K. Dobbins on a free agent visit.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Dobbins' agent says that he's in town for a visit with the Chiefs on Tuesday, April 2, and that he is "expected to have a home very soon." Dobbins recently visited the Los Angeles Chargers, where he had a connection to Jim Harbaugh from his time in Baltimore with his brother John Harbaugh.

A former 2020 second-round draft pick out of Ohio State, Dobbins has seen injuries plague his career since the 2021 NFL season. He's played in just 27 total games since entering the league in 2020. He suffered a torn ACL tear in the final game of the preseason in 2021. The following year he was in and out of the lineup with a knee injury. Last season, Dobbins suffered a torn Achilles in Week 1 against the Houston Texans.

Why would the Chiefs be interested in Dobbins given his injury history? They had a virtual pre-draft visit with Dobbins before the 2020 NFL draft. Of course, they went with Clyde Edwards-Helaire in the first round that year instead of Dobbins.

This is exactly the type of low-risk, high-reward signing they've looked for in the past at this position. Just look at how they revitalized Jerick McKinnon's career after his injuries in San Francisco. If Dobbins can stay healthy, he could become the perfect complementary back to Isiah Pacheco.

Dobbins is still only just 25 years old, so he could have a promising career ahead of him. He showed promise as a rookie with 134 carries for over 800 yards and nine rushing touchdowns. In 2022, he had 92 carries for 520 yards and two scores. He's also averaged 6.6 yards per reception during his career.
