The Kansas City Chiefs lost a big part of their offense this offseason via Orlando Brown Jr.'s decision to sign a four-year deal with the Bengals.
In response to losing Brown Jr., the Chiefs signed former Jacksonville Jaguar Jawaan Taylor.
There is one glaring issue with this plan: Taylor has played almost exclusively right tackle for a decade and Orlando Brown Jr. was the Chiefs' starting left tackle the past two years.
The Chiefs' plan is to move Taylor over to the left side. Taylor's recent comments about his impending position switch makes it seem like it will be an easy transition, but that is not the case. Your footwork changes, your launching point off the line of scrimmage changes. It's quite a drastic move, even for someone as experienced as Taylor.
So does this draft present the Chiefs and option at left tackle in the first round? Luckily, it does.
Let's talk about former Oklahoma Sooners left tackle, Anton Harrison.
First up is experience, Harrison has started the last two years for the Sooners; most of his starts came at left tackle, but one did come at right tackle.
We all know the Chiefs like to pass the ball with Patrick Mahomes under center, and Harrison comes from a very pass-heavy offense with the Sooners.
Harrison has shown he has good hand placement, has had flashes of power, and has shown his football IQ.
Left tackle is such an important position to a football team. If Taylor's transition doesn't get off to too good of a start, the Chiefs might be wise to have a capable backup waiting.
