The Kansas City Chiefs kicked off their first practice session of the week ahead of their upcoming AFC West showdown with the Denver Broncos.

Speaking to media members on Wednesday, Chiefs HC Andy Reid provided the latest information on the team's injury situation after their overtime win on "Monday Night Football."

"JuJu (Smith-Schuster) won't practice, but he's making good progress," Reid told reporters. "He's just a bit away. Then, Turk (Tershawn Wharton) won't go today, but he's good. He had a knee contusion, and so we're just letting it rest today. Everybody else will be out there and working again.

Considering that Patrick Mahomes, Mecole Hardman, and George Karlaftis were also among the injured following the Week 9 win over the Buccaneers, it's good to know that everyone else would work. Speaking of Mahomes, the messaging surrounding his ankle injury continues to be positive. Reid said that he'd be able to participate in full on Wednesday.

"Yeah, he won't have to back off, but he manages it," Reid said of Mahomes. "You know, he stays on top of all that."

Mahomes also spoke about the injury ahead of practice.

"Oh, it's doing good," Mahomes said. "You know, obviously, when you have a little bit of a roll, it's a little bit of sore, but I'm able to move around. And I look forward to getting out of practice and seeing how I can push it as the week goes on."

Knowing how he typically goes about things, Mahomes will test his limits with the ankle injury during the practice week.

As for players looking to return from reserve lists, Reid indicated that both Charles Omenihu and Isiah Pacheco continue to make progress, but aren't quite ready for activation this week.

Here's a look at the first injury reports of the week. . .

Observations:

  • The D-Line will be something to watch this week with Tershawn Wharton listed as a non-participant and George Karlaftis limited. It's good news that Mike Danna is practicing in full because he could realistically fill in for both players.
  • Nazeeh Johnson's practice participation suggests he'll be ready to return from his concussion on Sunday.
  • Kareem Hunt continues to be limited during the first practice to start the week. This is a load management scenario as opposed to anything serious.
  • Mecole Hardman was limited in practice, but he spoke to the media today, which suggests his injury isn't anything major.
