Preparations are officially underway as the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles get set for Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans, Louisiana.
While neither team participated in practice sessions on Wednesday, the NFL requires them to release an injury report in estimation. What does that mean? It's essentially an injury report that reflects what would have happened if either team had actually participated in a practice session.
The Chiefs will spend most of this week installing the game plan and completing all of their preparations ahead of the hubbub and media responsibilities during the week leading up to the Super Bowl. The good news is that this team is remarkably healthy, as Chiefs HC Andy Reid reported on Monday.
Chiefs, Eagles estimated injury reports for Wednesday, Jan. 29:
Chiefs team reporter Matt McMullen shared the full injury reports for both teams on Wednesday afternoon.
KEY: DNP = Did not participate | LP = Limited participation | FP = Full participation | NIR = Not injury related
Chiefs only have two "new" injuries
S Bryan Cook and RB Kareem Hunt were listed as having new quad injuries. Both players would have been full participants in practice on Wednesday.
G Mike Caliendo (shoulder) has been removed from the injury report entirely after popping up on it just last week.
Each of Mahomes, Taylor, and Watson remain on the injury report with their respective ailments. NFL rules require that players be listed on the injury report if they receive any treatment for the injuries. That tells you that Mahomes is still getting some preventative treatment on his ankle after hurting it back in Week 15.
What injuries to watch for the Eagles?
Landon Dickerson, Cam Jurgens, and Brett Toth stand out as non-participants. Dickerson and Jurgens notably played through injury in the NFC Championship Game. Kenneth Gainwell and DeVonta Smith are also pretty notable additions to Philly's injury report as non-participants.
This game is for all the chips, so you can rest assured that if any of these guys are even close to being able to play, they'll play.
