The Kansas City Chiefs recently signed former running back Kareem Hunt to the practice squad, and have made a few other moves in the wake of a big injury that occurred against their biggest current rival, the Cincinnati Bengals. As if the Chiefs didn't have enough on their plate with the Hollywood Brown injury, among others, they now have to deal with another star player being out.
Of course, that star player is starting running back Isiah Pacheco, who fractured his fibula against the Bengals. This is a tricky injury, but the original timetable is set to be six to eight weeks for recovery.
After seeing a foot and ankle specialist in Charlotte, North Carolina on Wednesday, doctors say that Pacheco underwent a very successful surgery. According to Ian Rapoport, there were no complications or ligament issues, and the timetable will remain the same.
With an injury as tricky as this one, that's exactly what Pacheco wanted to hear as he left the operating room. The Chiefs ran the ball well with Pacheco the last two weeks, and he will be a vital piece to their offense when he returns.
Right now, it feels like undrafted free-agent rookie running back Carson Steele will get the bulk of the carries. However, he fumbled last week against the Bengals, so, that could be an issue. Either way, the Chiefs will make do with what they have for the time being, just like they always do.
