The Kansas City Chiefs got a pleasant surprise on Sunday night, and they didn't even play a game.
When you have a bye week in the first round of the playoffs, you have the luxury of getting to watch the other games going on around the league. I think we all saw some things on Sunday that would make Chiefs fans feel a bit better about the possible AFC Championship game.
Let's start with the obvious, though. On Saturday the Chiefs got to watch their division rival, one that thought they were on Kansas City's level, blow a 27-point lead to the Jaguars.
Now that that is out of the way, Sunday was very interesting, from a spectator's perspective.
The Cincinnati Bengals and the Buffalo Bills are two of the likely candidates the Chiefs will face in the AFC Championship game if they were to make it. Both of those teams struggled on Sunday, pretty badly, I would say.
The Bills barely beat a depleted Miami Dolphins team that had to use their rookie third-string quarterback in Skylar Thompson. The final score was 34-31, but the Dolphins had the lead at one point. I think most of us can say there is a big chance the Dolphins win that game if Tua Tagovailoa played.
So maybe there is a chance the Bills have slowed things down, as the Dolphins, in my opinion, are nowhere near the level of the team the Chiefs are. And, the same could be said about the Ravens, who actually had several opportunities to go up on the Bengals, but self-inflicted wounds helped the Bengals out.
There was one instance where the Ravens were on the goal line, but their second-string quarterback fumbled the ball trying to dive over the goal line and it led to a Bengals touchdown.
That was just one of the many instances that could have had a depleted Ravens team win as well.
So what does all that mean for the Chiefs? Well, those two teams are about to beat up on each other, and it looks like they may not be playing their best ball right now, which is good for Kansas City.
