The Kansas City Chiefs almost suffered something worse than a loss in their game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
For a brief moment, I’m sure the NFL world stopped on its axis, and held its collective breath as Patrick Mahomes limped off the field in the first quarter.
If you didn’t see it, Mahomes was sacked and his ankle was landed on in what looked like it was going to be a brutal injury – one that would keep him out for the rest of the season and possible some of the next.
Luckily, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport later reported that Mahomes suffered what was believed to be a high-ankle sprain.
Well, on Sunday, that suspicion was confirmed as the Chiefs received Mahomes' MRI results. Sure enough, it a high-ankle sprain, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Mahomes has already guaranteed that he's playing in his fifth-straight AFC Championship game, but, that isn’t always up to him. A high-ankle sprain is definitely something to monitor throughout the week.
Either way, the Chiefs and Mahomes know exactly what they are dealing with moving forward and obviously, they'll do everything they can to get him ready for Sunday.
