Jacksonville Jaguars OLB Josh Allen has the Kansas City Chiefs in his crosshairs.

Fresh off a dominant Week 1 performance, which saw the 26-year-old edge rusher record a career-high three sacks on Indianapolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson, Allen has turned his attention to the reigning Super Bowl champions.

Every week, the Chiefs are getting everyone's best shot. They're the hunted, and Allen sees himself as the hunter. The fifth-year defender knows this team is his albatross and he told reporters on Monday this upcoming matchup is one that he's taking personally.

“It’s a little personal for me because the last two times we played them last year, I wasn’t at my best,” Allen said. “So, for me, it’s personal, but at the end of the day, I got a job to do and for me to be where I need to be, I also need to know what I’m doing out there. The film study and the preparation takes a full hand. If I continue to do that and continue to practice well, then everything else is going to take care of itself and that’s what I want to be more consistent on.”

This will mark the third matchup with the Chiefs in the last 12 months for Allen. Each of the last two matchups ended up in losses. In fact, he's never beaten Kansas City before during the course of his NFL career.

When a friend becomes a foe

One of the major differences in this matchup is that Allen will be matching up with a former teammate and college adversary. Jawaan Taylor joined the Chiefs in free agency in 2023 after spending the first four years of his career with the Jaguars. Taylor and Allen also had their battles in college in the SEC.

"Dealing with Jawaan, man, I've been knowing Jawaan since college,” Allen said. “We’ve been having battles way back from Florida and Kentucky. Obviously, we get drafted together, so having those battles up there. Also, I trained with him in Orange Park, Florida. I’m excited to play against him. Travon (Walker) is, as well. Travon has been going against him since last year, as well. He knows what we can do, we know what he can do. If we continue to do what we’re supposed to do, I think we’ll have a good opportunity to go win some rushes.”

According to Pro Football Focus, Allen lined up against the right tackle for over 70% of his snaps in Week 1. Taylor, of course, was the center of some major NFL controversy in Week 1 and could have his hands full going up against players with whom he has familiarity.

This is the Jags' Super Bowl

The Chiefs know they're going to get everyone's best shot every week, which means they need to be at their best every week. They need to be able to match the intensity of a team like the Jaguars, who are eager for success after Kansas City booted them out of the playoffs just months ago.

Even having something like a home-field advantage doesn't matter much to a player like Allen. He's locked in.

"It doesn't really make a big difference," Allen said. "He's (still) Patrick Mahomes. If (Travis) Kelce plays or not, they're a heck of a team. . . This is a game that we must win. This is a playoff game for us. We may see this team later down the road, so we want to get in early. We also can't lose at home. We know our fans are going to show out and be out there even though it's going to be really hot."

Hopefully, the Chiefs can rise to the occasion after a disappointing Week 1 loss.
