One player had one of the more iconic moments in Chiefs' history that likely won't get talked about enough.
Having veteran running back Jerick McKinnon resign with the Chiefs for a one-year deal is one of the best decisions they made this offseason, and of course, it won't get talked about enough, either. Mckinnon is a guy that did so many things for the Chiefs last year; getting him on a $1.16 million deal was huge.
McKinnon also had one of the more iconic moments in the Chiefs' long history. You may remember during the Super Bowl, with almost two minutes left in the game, and the score tied 35-35, the Chiefs had the ball on the 10-yard line. McKinnon ran the ball and easily could have scored, but he slid just in front of the goal line.
Why? Because there was still too much time remaining and giving the ball back to the Eagles and Jalen Hurts, for that matter, would have been dumb, especially with over a minute left. We saw what Mahomes could do with 13 seconds; think about what Hurts could have done with a minute and a half.
That slide was one of the more iconic moments in Chiefs' history that just won't get talked about enough.
"Hopefully, I can get another moment," McKinnon told the media. "That's why we play the game, to get a Super Bowl. Not the individual awards, but to hold that trophy at the end. And you know, see everybody happy, and go through those emotions together."
McKinnon was a guy that helped the Chiefs a ton and was an underrated guy that not many people outside of Chiefs Kingdom talked about. He was the best pass protector and pass catcher at the running back spot for the Chiefs.
Now, McKinnon is a Super Bowl champion.
"Once you get that feeling and the taste of it, you want more," McKinnon told reporters Wednesday.
McKinnon didn't score the touchdown or a touchdown in the Super Bowl, but he set up the game-winner. That's what you want to take away from the move as well.
"If that's the way it sums up, I'm perfectly fine with it," he continued. "But, you know, God is good. God is great. He put me in that moment for a purpose —and to do what I had to do."
