In life, things happen that are out of your control. The players on the Kansas City Chiefs have no control over what is happening with Chris Jones. The drama isn't going away anytime soon.
Even with a football game on Thursday, the first of the year, the Chiefs are still keeping themselves in the thick of things when it comes to drama. Chris Jones, one of the best defensive players in the league, didn't show up to practice on Sunday.
That doesn't mean he can't play Thursday, but it certainly makes it more and more apparent that he won't. That leaves the defense even more vulnerable against a lethal offense in the Detroit Lions.
Without Jones, there could be a huge deficiency within the defense. The run defense and pass rush will both take a hit.
But, as we said earlier, the players can't control Jones not being there. For some of them, 'it is what it is.'
"It is what it is," safety Justin Reid told the media on Sunday. "Chris is one of the best in the NFL. People have to step up and play their best football so we can find a way to win."
We will likely see more guys used on the defensive line than usual. The Charles Omenihu suspension definitely doesn't help, either. New Chief Neil Farrell and rookie Keondre Coburn will likely see a good amount of snaps as backups.
Right now, all the Chiefs' players can do is control what they control. Don't think about Jones not being there and letting that be a reason you can't win. It will make it much harder, but it can be done.
We will see how this defense responds to being down their best man on Thursday. Hopefully, they keep this same mindset.
