The Kansas City Chiefs kicked off their first practice session of the week on Wednesday leading up to their Week 13 tilt with the Green Bay Packers on "Sunday Night Football."

Chiefs HC Andy Reid confirmed to members of the media that RB Jerick McKinnon (groin), who missed the team's Week 12 game against the Las Vegas Raiders, would be the lone player absent from practice to start the week. On Monday, Reid provided the following update on McKinnon.

"(Jerick) McKinnon, his groin has been bothering him for a bit," Reid said. "He’s kind of pushed through it, but he was at the point where he was going to have a hard time working at the level he wants to work at there and be safe.”

Everyone else was expected to practice in some capacity on Wednesday, including WR Kadarius Toney and a star defender who is returning from injured reserve.

Nick Bolton returns to practice

Chiefs LB Nick Bolton has officially been designated to return from injured reserve, opening his 21-day practice window. The team will have that period of time to ease him back into action and activate him to the 53-man roster.

"We'll bring him along slowly, see how he does," Reid told reporters on Monday.

Bolton was spotted at practice wearing a hard cast on his left forearm, which clearly is meant to provide some sort of protection for his wrist injury. Bolton has missed the past four weeks recovering following surgery on his left wrist.

It's safe to assume, given Reid's comments on the matter, that the Chiefs won't rush Bolton back. They want to make sure that he has healed enough and can protect the injury before he makes his return to the lineup. If he's able to graduate from such a heavy cast to a lighter form of protection, it'd likely indicate he's closer to making his return.
