The Kansas City Chiefs have made several roster moves as they prepare to begin the practice week for their Week 4 tilt with the New York Jets on "Sunday Night Football."
First, the team made several moves involving the 53-man roster. After suffering a significant quad injury in the Week 3 game against the Chicago Bears, the Chiefs have opted to place OT Prince Tega Wanogho on injured reserve.
He was the team's backup left tackle, and his placement on injured reserve is a big hit to the depth on the O-Line. We'll find out more this afternoon about the timeline on that injury and whether it's season-ending, but his placement on IR means that he'll be out for a minimum of four weeks.
This move meant that the team now had two free spaces on the 53-man roster after placing WR Richie James on injured reserve last Saturday.
As I predicted yesterday, the team signed WR Montrell Washington to the 53-man roster from the practice squad. He'll likely be the team's designated kick and punt return specialist from here on out and the upside there is big.
The team also added DT Matt Dickerson to the 53-man roster from the practice squad. Dickerson had been elevated to the 53-man roster from the practice squad in each of the first two weeks this season and played significant snaps on defense both weeks. He'll likely be on the roster until Charles Omenihu is activated from his six-game suspension.
The team also filled two spots on the practice squad. We already knew about WR Chase Cota, but they also added another receiver. An undrafted free agent out of Colorado, Daniel Arias spent the offseason with the Arizona Cardinals. The 6-foot-4 and 196-pound wideout made the initial 53-man roster in Arizona, but he was released in order to make room for a waiver claim. The common theme in these two signings is that both players have a good combination of size and speed.
