The Kansas City Chiefs have a new addition who is already being blown away in practice every day.
The Chiefs got one of the biggest steals of free agency. Well, they got two of the biggest steals. The first was Charles Omenihu, who is one of the most underrated pass rushers in the league; the other was linebacker Drue Tranquill, the Chiefs' new $3 million guy who will hold it down on the defense.
Tranquill was a starter for the Los Angeles Chargers, and now he is on one of the cheaper deals you will see for a guy who can do a little bit of everything. The Chiefs didn't need a linebacker going into free agency, but hey, that's a deal you can't pass up.
Tranquill is already seeing things in practice all the time that blow him away.
"You just see these highlight throws that are up every year, year after year. Those throws aren't just one-off things that he makes in a big-time game. He seems to make those throws every day in practice," Tranquill told NFL Total Access' Omar Ruiz on Thursday. "Every day, I'm either out there or getting a break on the sideline, and I'm just like, 'Wow. What a throw. What a talent.'"
The only thing to say is, welcome to Kansas City. If he plans on sticking around past this year, he will see even more of the crazy things the best quarterback in the league can do. We see it in games all the time. Just this year, we saw him do some crazy things, such as the toss play to Clyde Edwards-Helaire against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the flick play to Jerick McKinnon against the Denver Broncos.
With how often we see the amazing things in the game, imagine how often the players see it in practice. Mahomes has even hinted at doing a behind-the-back pass, and I'm sure he has tried it in practice before. Tranquill will be seeing a lot of things you don't see every day.
