The Kansas City Chiefs defensive captain made sure to let everyone know there was one thing he is doing before he retires.

Something that a lot of today's players are doing is going back to school in the summer to get their degrees, which is one of the best things they could possibly do. We have seen players like Jalen Hurts, as of late, go back to college and get his master's degree from the University of Oklahoma.

"There is a lot of attention that goes to having success on the football field and the things I may be doing in the community, but nobody can take this scholarship aspect of it, the academic aspect of it, away from me," Hurts said earlier this offseason.

Now, one of the Chiefs' very own is going to go back and get his degree. Maybe not yet, but certainly, before his time is done in the NFL. It's too important not to.

"It's very important," Chiefs' linebacker Nick Bolton told reporters. "My mom, I talk to my mom and I'll have a degree. I didn't have an opportunity to do that because of COVID. It kind of kept us from finishing, doing summer classes that you actually had to have in order to be eligible. So it kind of put me behind a little bit, but it's very important for me. I will not finish my NFL career without my degree."

The NFL, and football in general, like all sports, won't always be there. Your time playing the sport professionally will always come to an end because father time always wins. What are you going to do after football? Not everyone can go on TV or on the radio.

With how violent the sport is, players oftentimes end up finishing their careers faster than other spots. It's good to have something to lean back on in case something happens. That's why players go back and finish their degrees, usually in the offseason. When Bolton does, I know all of Chiefs Kingdom will be proud of him.
