There was what was thought to be a rift between a player and coach during the Kansas City Chiefs game against the Indianapolis Colts. Turns out, we could be wrong.
Patrick Mahomes was seen by CBS cameras arguing with offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy about the play that happened right before the second quarter timer ran out. As the two were heading towards the locker room, it looked as if they had to be separated by head coach Andy Reid.
This is what Reid had to say after the game when asked about the situation.
"He wanted to go for it," Reid said.
Nate Taylor, a reporter and writer for The Athletic then asked "A Hail Mary, specifically?"
"No, not a Hail Mary," Reid responded. "But, I thought it was best not to do it. He's [Mahomes] a competitive kid, you know. He wants to take advantage of every opportunity, I thought it was best just to let that ride.
"But really, if you heard the words that were said, that wasn't, I don't know how it looked to you guys, but there wasn't a confrontation at all. That's not what it was."
Then Mahomes was also asked about the situation, and he, like he often does, kind of laughed the question off, but proceeded to answer the question.
"At the end of the day I wanted to go try and score. It's just who I am. We were in a tough situation, I think it was like second, or third and 20, or something like that, probably the smart decision was to take it, we got the ball after half, let's just go to halftime, I'm always going to be wanting to score.
"I pretty much just said let me have a chance at it and he [Bieniemy] was just like let's get back in our locker room and we will get something going for the next half. I don't know if that's an altercation but that was the end of the conversation."
It seems like they figured out whatever the issue was. It also seems like the Chiefs may not have a problem going forward, which we all thought.
In my opinion, I think it was just two competitive guys showing their fiery side.
