Things were looking bleak when Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce hyperextended his knee during red zone drills in practice on Tuesday. Many didn't know if he'd have a realistic chance to play given the proximity to the game on Thursday.

Everything to come out since has been rather optimistic regarding his injury and status. Clark Hunt commented on the injury on Wednesday, saying that Kelce would be considered day-to-day. The latest speculation regarding Kelce's game status heading into Week 1 comes directly from an NFL insider.

That insider suggests that Kelce will suit up and play against the Detroit Lions for Week 1.

"I think, personally, Travis Kelce is going to play," Garafolo said on Thursday's episode of NFL Network's The Insiders. "That's more of an educated guess and just knowing Travis Kelce and knowing what it's going to mean for him to be out there for this game. I understand it's Week 1 [and] I understand it's a long season – so does he.

"I think he winds up being out there."

Kelce was listed with a questionable game status designation for the Week 1 tilt with the Lions. He's currently considered a game-time decision with reports that he'll test his knee ahead of the game in front of head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder.

Teams typically release their inactive lists an hour ahead of kickoff, so expect to get the final word on Travis Kelce around 6:20 p.m. CT.
