The Kansas City Chiefs' star defensive tackle isn't close to agreeing on an extension.

A report came out on Saturday evening about Chris Jones and the Chiefs not being close to an agreement on a contract extension. On Saturday, the day before day 1 of non-rookies camp, Jones was nowhere to be found as every veteran showed up.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the two sides remain "far apart" on a new deal for Jones.

This is the Chief's best defensive player and likely their third-best player. He is the team's second most valuable player. If the defense doesn't have Jones, they aren't a very good defense.

All offseason, the Chiefs have been covering up how far apart the two sides actually were from each other. The Chiefs should of had this done a long time ago, as it would have helped give them some financial stability for free agency.

This is something to watch as training camp progresses.
