Tyrann Mathieu has been that guy for Kansas City. Now, what he did for the Chiefs on and off the field, is something that will be hard to replicate.
The energy Mathieu brought was unreal. The leadership he brought will make you want to run through a brick wall. However, it is unfortunate that he no longer plays for the Chiefs. That means that the Chiefs would possibly have an issue in those areas with his departure.
However, that may not be an issue with the recent things that have been transcribed from minicamp.
Chiefs' Reid and Gay Jr. bringing energy to camp
There have been rumblings of the presence Justin Reid has had. It has been said his energy is great, and the leadership trending in the right direction.
While he is just a second-year player, Nick Bolton, who may wear the green dot this year, had big things to say about Reid and Willie Gay Jr.
"I feel like our young guys, it's our time to step up and lead. It's not one person. No one is going to be able to replace Hitch [Anthony Hitchens] and Mathieu. Those guys are special guys," Second-year linebacker Nick Bolton praised. "It's up to us as a group to get guys in the best position possible to play."
"Since he [Reid] has been here, he's been great, he is a very high-energy guy. Justin [Reid] and Willie [Gay] are competing for who has the highest energy out there. It's always exciting to be around."
The Chiefs seem to be in good hands with the young players on the team. The core is talented and seems to understand the task at hand. Next, is the ability to do it in a game, not at camp.
Getting back to the Super Bowl will be hard without the guys mentioned. However, this is a start.
