The Kansas City Chiefs have had some rumors swirling around them, but one ESPN analyst doesn't think it will happen. The player they are rumored to take in the first round is Jahmyr Gibbs, the running back from Alabama.

Now, Gibbs is amazing, and I would love him on this team, but I simply don't think it will happen. The Chiefs don't have a huge need for a running back, let alone one that's projected to go in round one.

The rumor and report come from Albert Breer, an NFL insider for Sports Illustrated. He thinks the Chiefs could be a team to watch for Gibbs in the first round at pick 31, based on some of the things he is hearing. Here is what he wrote in his weekly column:

The other name was Gibbs. Now, Andy Reid’s taken one running back in the first round in 24 drafts as a head coach and that one (Clyde Edwards-Helaire) hasn’t really worked out. Still, listening to others talk about Gibbs’s fit with Mahomes and Reid can be convincing. “I wouldn’t want to be in the AFC West,” said one NFC exec, “if Gibbs winds up in Kansas City.” If the Chiefs stay put.

But, why would the Chiefs do that, right? Well, maybe they like the fact that Gibbs is an elite pass catcher out of the backfield. We've seen it all year at Alabama, they would line him up almost anywhere and let him use his 4.36 speed to stretch the field.

But, Matt Miller of ESPN isn't buying that the Chiefs would really do that, because it doesn't make a ton of sense. They have been down this road before with Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Here is what Miller said on the Kansas City Sports Network podcast:

I have a ton of respect for Albert Breer, he does a fantastic job, and this is the hardest part of our job, is connecting players and teams. However, I have a really hard time seeing that one, given the fact that they just had a seventh-round draft pick lead them to the Super Bowl at running back. That's where it is hard for me… There is a good need for a receiver back if Jerick McKinnon is not going to be on this team in 2023. I just don't think Brett Veach can spend another first-round pick on a running back after what happened to Clyde Edwards-Helaire. I just can't see that for that team. Draft Tyjae Spears in the third round if that's what you are looking for.

The Chiefs don't need a running back, like at all. Now they have an issue. They have two very good running backs, but don't run the ball, and don't get in 13 personnel enough to really use both of them a fair amount. Now will they draft another one? It's possible.

The Chiefs have 12 picks and their bench depth at the position isn't good, so I could certainly see them grabbing one, just not in round one. If they did I think it would be the fifth round or something like that.
