Kansas City's depth at wide receiver is a bit thin after losing JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mecole Hardman in free agency.
For now, the Chiefs' top three wide receivers are Marques Valdez-Scantling, Kadarius Toney, and Skyy Moore. The expectation is that Kansas City will select a wide receiver in the 2023 NFL Draft.
The Chiefs were named this week by Pro Football Network's Adam Beasley as a potential landing spot for veteran wide receiver Cedrick Wilson, who is currently under contract with the Miami Dolphins. Wilson is a former sixth-round pick who signed a three-year extension worth $22.8 million a year ago.
Miami seems open to trading Wilson — especially after signing Chosen Anderson this week. But that could be easier said than done. Wilson's cap hit in 2023 is $8 million. Wilson caught just 12 passes for 136 yards and zero touchdowns last season.
It's hard to see the Chiefs having much interest in Wilson. His low production combined with his $8 million cap hit doesn't make him a very attractive option for the defending Super Bowl champions. Plus there's the fact that Kansas City doesn't have a ton of cap space and they'd have to get creative to find a way to afford Wilson's cap hit along with their 2023 draft class. Maybe they'd try to make Deandre Hopkins work with the salary cap, but I doubt they'd make the same effort for Wilson.
I think we can file this under things that probably won't happen.
