For the first time this season, the Kansas City Chiefs have elected to not use their full allotment of practice squad elevations.
According to the NFL's personnel notice for Saturday, the Chiefs are only elevating LB Cole Christiansen from the practice squad this week. They will not use both of their allotted standard elevations, which tells you the roster is fairly healthy.
Christiansen signed with the Chargers in 2020 as an undrafted free agent out of West Point. He joined the Chiefs' practice squad last season and has stuck on as a reserve linebacker and special teamer ever since.
This is the second consecutive week that Christiansen has been elevated to the 53-man roster from the practice squad. With Nick Bolton ruled out again, he provides valuable depth behind Drue Tranquill, Willie Gay Jr., Leo Chenal, Jack Cochrane, and Cam Jones.
Last week, all of Christiansen's snaps came on special teams. Sans an injury or a blowout against the Jets in Week 4, you can expect the same type of workload for Christiansen.
With Jaylen Watson ruled out and no elevation of a cornerback from the practice squad, look for Chiefs rookie CB Nic Jones to make his 2023 NFL season debut on Sunday.
