The Kansas City Chiefs’ can’t seem to avoid the dreaded injury bug, with three players going down within the first 14 minutes of the Week 15 game against the Los Angeles Chaargers

They entered the game against the Chargers shorthanded on both sides of the ball, with multiple starters inactive due to injuries. They were particularly depleted on the offensive line, and it didn’t take long for another scare on the offensive line.

Chiefs RT Jaylon Moore was hurt on the second offensive play of the game after an illegal low block by Chargers DB Derwin James. The Kansas City training staff attended to Moore on the sideline, checking out his left knee. Chu Godrick came into the game to play the first regular-season snaps of his NFL career. Thankfully, Moore was able to return to the game after missing just two plays, but injured his left knee again with about two minutes to go in the second quarter.

Later in the first quarter, Chiefs LB Nick Bolton suffered an injury. He missed four plays on the Chargers’ scoring drive before coming back into the game on the following defensive series.

Thankfully for the Chiefs, those two players were able to return, but another player was injured and out for a more extended period.

Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy in NFL’s concussion protocol

Update: Worthy returned to the game, clearing the NFL’s concussion protocol with about two minutes to go in the first half.

On a key third down at the end of the first quarter, Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy fell down and a Chargers defender fell on top of him. Worthy immediately grabbed at his helmet, which is the universal signal for a head injury in the NFL. He was quickly evaluated in the blue tent on the sideline and escorted to the locker room.

The Chiefs announced at 12:45 p.m. CT that Worthy was in the league’s concussion protocol. He was targeted once and recorded no receptions on the day. Worthy has dealt with a number of injuries this season, including a shoulder injury suffered in Week 1 against the Chargers.

The only saving grace for Kansas City here is that rookie WR Jalen Royals is active today. Perhaps, the Chiefs can get the rookie involved with some meaningful snaps he can build off of. The bad news is that one of their fastest players is now out for the remainder of the game when the team is already struggling to beat man coverage when he’s on the field. The offensive coaching staff will have to get really creative here.
