Kansas City Chiefs second-year WR Nikko Remigio is taking full advantage of his opportunities during Organized Team Activities (OTAs).

An undrafted free agent out of Fresno State in 2023, Remigio was walking a trail blazed by former Chiefs receiver Stephone Paige before injury derailed his rookie season. He caught 4-of-6 passes for 71 yards in his preseason debut against the Saints last year, a performance that had fans doing roster gymnastics to try and figure out a way to put him on the 53-man roster.

Unfortunately, after making an acrobatic in training camp practice the following week, Remigio suffered a dislocated shoulder and landed on injured reserve, ending his season before it even had a chance to begin. Remigio is back healthy in 2024, weighing closer to 197 pounds than his post-college list weight of 187 pounds. While on injured reserve last season, he transformed his body to better hold up for the NFL game.

Chiefs OC Matt Nagy raves about Remigio after standout practice on Thursday

With Xavier Worthy sidelined due to a hamstring injury, and other receivers absent from the voluntary practice on Thursday, Remigio was thrust into action in the starting lineup. During team drills, Remigio boasted a special connection with Patrick Mahomes, catching more passes from the star QB than practically any other receiver on the day.

After practice, Chiefs OC Matt Nagy was asked what must happen for Remigio to break out during the 2024 NFL season. Nagy suggested that Remigio is already on the path to do so and simply needs to keep up the good work.

“Keep doing what he’s doing," Nagy said of Remigio. "I was so proud of him last year – it was unfortunate for him to get hurt like he did. Nikko is a prime example of an undrafted free agent that comes in, is an absolute true professional every day in the meeting room, every day at practice. It’s the same speed. It’s the same mentality. You root for guys like that."

While a standout OTA practice in May is a good start, Remigio must maintain consistency and keep it up once the pads come on in July. In addition to producing on offense, Nagy suggested Remigio has to carve out a role on special teams.

"You’re bringing his name up, obviously he’s showing up and you see that," Nagy said. "Again, guys like him they find a role as well and they’ve got to make an impact on special teams. I’m rooting for him. I think he’s a great kid and could be a fun story.”
