The Kansas City Chiefs could use some wide receiver help after the departure of JuJu Smith-Schuster, but don't expect them to land Pro Bowl wideout DeAndre Hopkins.
Per KPRC2's Aaron Wilson, Hopkins' price tag is an obstacle for the Chiefs and they aren't expected to be among the final bidders.
The Chiefs' receiver cupboard isn't completely bare, by any means. You can do a lot worse than the top trio of Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Kadarius Toney, and Skyy Moore. Undrafted free agent Justyn Ross will also be in the mix after suffering a season-ending injury during last year's offseason.
And when you have a quarterback like Patrick Mahomes, you don't necessarily need a top-tier wideout. He raises the game of everyone else around him.
But, still. Bringing in a guy like Hopkins would immediately give the Chiefs the NFL's best offense. In a vacuum, one can certainly liken the idea to when Randy Moss teamed up with Tom Brady: one of the game's best wideouts catching passes from one of the game's best quarterbacks is always going to produce results.
Plus, there are questions with just about every top receiver on the Chiefs' roster. Could MVS handle more responsibility? Can Toney stay healthy for a full season? Will Skyy Moore take the next step?
Fortunately, the Chiefs also have something that can help with that and it's the coaching staff. They should be able to get the most out of these guys by furthering their development.
The Chiefs will be just fine with Hopkins. It's still disappointing, though, because the pairing of Mahomes and Hopkins would easily be must-see TV.
