Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes earns AFC Offensive Player of the Week recognition for the first time since 2023

If you needed another sign that Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs’ offense is back, the NFL just gave you one.

For the first time since the 2023 NFL season, Mahomes was bestowed with AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors. This comes after Mahomes completed 25-of-37 pass attempts (67.6 completion percentage) for 270 yards and four touchdown passes with no interceptions and a 124.8 passer rating, defeating the Baltimore Ravens in a 37-20 victory.

This performance coincided with the return of injured WR Xavier Worthy, who proved to be the spark that the Chiefs’ offense needed to really open things up. It was the only four passing TD performance in the NFL in Week 4, AFC or NFC. It also marked the 18th time in Mahomes’ career that he’d thrown for four passing touchdowns, the most-ever by an NFL player in their first nine seasons.

Mahomes, of course, also became the fastest quarterback in NFL history to reach 250 touchdown passes on Sunday.

  • Mahomes has now won the AFC Offensive Player of the Week award 11 times (2018: Weeks 1 & 2, 2019: Week 2, 2020: Weeks 3 & 8, 2021: Weeks 1 & 10, 2022: Weeks 1 & 4, 2023: Week 12, 2025: Week 4).
  • This marks Mahomes’ first weekly award since Week 12 of the 2023 NFL season.

Mahomes now ties Russell Wilson for the fourth-most Player of the Week awards among active quarterbacks, trailing only Aaron Rodgers (19), Josh Allen (16), and Lamar Jackson (13). Know that Mahomes is a competitor in every sense of the word; he’s probably aiming to catch up to Allen, Jackson, and Rodgers. Where he’s not trailing those three quarterbacks? Super Bowl wins. So, he’s at least got that going for him.
