Update: The Chiefs have announced the results of Mahomes’ MRI. He suffered a torn ACL and is done for the season.

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes sent a message to his fans after suffering what appeared to be a significant knee injury in the Week 15 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.

Mahomes exited the game with a left knee injury shortly after the two-minute warning in the fourth quarter of the game. After the game, Chiefs HC Andy Reid spoke about the injury, explaining that Mahomes would get an MRI, but he held no illusions about the situation. The injury didn’t look good.

In Mahomes’ message to his fans, he appears to confirm the worst fears about a significant knee injury.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes says he’ll come back stronger than ever before

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes took to social media shortly after the game to send a message to his fans and all those who have shown him support.

“Don’t know why this had to happen,” Mahomes wrote on X. “And not going to lie it’s hurts. But all we can do now is Trust in God and attack every single day over and over again. Thank you Chiefs kingdom for always supporting me and for everyone who has reached out and sent prayers. I will be back stronger than ever.”

That doesn’t exactly sound like the message of someone who avoided a significant knee injury, but until we get official word, there’s still at least some hope of good news.

Support pours in for Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes in wake of injury

The entirety of Chiefs Kingdom is rallying around Patrick Mahomes in the wake of his injury. Many people responded to his tweet.

“Man…you’re the GOAT,” Former Chiefs QB Chase Daniel wrote.

“WE LOVE YOU MAN GODSPEED,” Former NFL punter and ESPN host Pat McAfee wrote.

Of course, his teammates also sent some positive messages after the Week 15 game.

“Yeah, it stinks,” Chiefs C Creed Humphrey told reporters. “You know, we don’t know exactly what’s going on yet, so I can’t really say anything. Just hoping that he’s OK.”

Asked about what he’d tell Mahomes when he saw him, Chiefs DT Chris Jones had it all put into the proper perspective.

“Just hug him, man,” Jones said. “That’s my brother. We’ve been through so much. You know, we can be mad at ourselves, and we can ask God, why? But at times, it’s more so a lesson that you’ve been taught along the journey, and we’ll be selfish to ask God, why? Why? Why? Right now? Why? This, moreso, understand it, build from it. We love Pat. That’s my guy. It’s Pat Mahomes.”
