NFL hall of Famer Peyton Manning is generally regarded as one of the best quarterbacks of all time — and he should be — but Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has already left him in the dust when it comes to all-time great signal callers.
Mahomes gave NFL fans a performance for the ages on Saturday against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The former NFL MVP suffered what appeared to be a high ankle sprain in the first quarter of the Chiefs' 27-20 win, but he gutted it out as KC advanced to the AFC Championship game.
The incredible performance from Mahomes, though, isn't why he's already left Peyton in the dust.
Kansas City's win against the Jaguars means that Mahomes, at 27 years old, will be playing in his fifth straight AFC Championship game at home.
Manning didn't even win his first playoff game until he was 27 years old.
That's actually just the beginning of impressive stats when it comes to Mahomes and the playoffs.
At 27 years old, Mahomes already has the same number of conference championship game appearances as Manning, Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers, Ben Roethlisberger, and Jim Kelly.
Mahomes only has one Super Bowl ring so far, so he still has quite a bit of work to do to catch up to Tom Brady. But there's no doubt that he's going to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer. In fact, he could retire at 27 and still reach the Hall of Fame.
We're truly witnessing one of the best to ever play the game every time Mahomes takes the field. And no one should be taking it for granted.
