It hasn't even been 40 days since the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII and their players are already hard at work training during the offseason.

Patrick Mahomes has been back to work with his longtime trainer Bobby Stroupe at APEC (Athlete Performance Enhancement Center) in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, and he brought along some friends. Rashee Rice and Hollywood Brown have already joined Mahomes and Stroupe at APEC, where they're getting some specialized training.

Stroupe posted some photos on Thursday morning, that should be of intrigue to Chiefs fans. Both Rice and Brown are working on foot and ankle-specific exercises and we're not talking about NFL footwork drills. Stroupe has the pair working on the mechanics of the foot and ankle to help limit any issues that may arise during the 2024 NFL season.

New Chiefs WR Hollywood Brown trying to leave history where it belongs

Beyond the simple aspect of building chemistry, Brown joining Mahomes and Stroupe at APEC can pay major dividends. Brown has a history of foot and ankle injuries, with some issues popping up as recently as last season.

Brown missed Weeks 6 and 7 of the 2019 NFL season due to an ankle sprain. The following offseason he had surgery to remove a screw from his injured foot, an injury suffered during his final season of college.

In Week 6 of the 2022 NFL season, Brown suffered a fractured foot and was placed on IR by the Arizona Cardinals. He missed five weeks before returning to action in Week 12. He also missed time with a nagging heel injury in December of 2023.

Stroupe explained in his posts above that every problem athletes have with their foot and ankle can start a chain reaction and cause more problems. To see that he's working with Brown (and Rice for that matter) to better prepare the feet and ankles for the things they might encounter on the football field has the potential to be a big deal. The last thing the Chiefs want to see is Brown suffering an injury that has plagued him in the past.

When Mahomes was tackled awkwardly in the AFC title game against the Baltimore Ravens, Stroupe reminded everyone of the preparation that allowed him to walk away from that unscathed.

It's the same theory here for Brown, but this time it's about training the feet and the ankles to withstand the harshness of the gridiron.
