And he should be, honestly. The Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback said he was embarrassed after the loss to the Detroit Lions on Thursday to open up the season. It was embarrassing.
It's embarrassing for me to lose any time," Mahomes said after the game.
Now, Mahomes should not be embarrassed with himself because he did his job. Mahomes made the throws he was supposed to make all night long.
The wide receivers didn't do their job, as they had eight or nine drops on the night. The defense played fine but easily could have been better. They didn't have Chris Jones or Travis Kelce. A whole bunch of things go into this loss, but none of them are Mahomes.
The distractions played a role, too.
"I said after the ring ceremony, I moved on to the next season," Mahomes continued. "Obviously, it's cool for the fans to be able to see the banner and drop it in the stadium, but this is a whole new year, and I think I know that we are trying to win another Super Bowl, and this is obviously not the way we want to start. So, any time I lose, I'm embarrassed; I'll get better so I don't lose more."
The Chiefs lost their first Week 1 game since 2014, which was several years before Mahoms was the quarterback. This is pretty new. But if there is anything we do know, Andy Reid fixes problems almost immediately.
The Chiefs don't usually lose a game and then go and play badly again. It has happened, but I'm willing to bet everyone felt embarrassed about Thursday that they bring the fire next Sunday.
Chiefs are making a big mistake with Chris Jones
The Kansas City Chiefs are making all the wrong decisions when it comes to handling Chris Jones’ contract extension.
