The Kansas City Chiefs are set up to go into the season with another great rookie class. Well, we obviously don't know that yet, but because they have general manager Brett Veach and head coach Andy Reid, we pretty much assume they will get it right.
Last season they hit on nearly every prospect, and it worked out great. Several day three guys were either starters or made big plays in the postseason when it matters most. Hopefully, the Chiefs can do that again.
As of right now though, everyone seems to be talking about what the Chiefs will do with their first-round pick. The Chiefs need a right tackle, more receiving depth, pass rushers at the edge spot and defensive tackle spot, and depth here and there at other places.
We would all love for the Chiefs to get a guy that fits the needs of their roster with that first pick. A guy like Will McDonald if he is available, the edge rusher out of Iowa State, or even Quentin Johnson, the receiver out of TCU. And they will get the pick right like they always do.
But, it seems that no one is talking about the fact that they can still attack some of their biggest needs on day two too. If they don't get a right tackle on day one, they can still get a good one on day two. Pro Football Focus actually has them making a selection like that on day two, and it's the perfect fit.
KANSAS CITY CHIEFS: OT WANYA MORRIS, OKLAHOMA
The Chiefs have developed offensive linemen very well under Andy Reid, and there aren’t any Day 2 tackles with better developmental traits than Morris. He’s a nimble athlete with elite length for the position.
A lot of people want the Chiefs to grab Anton Harrison with the Chiefs' first pick, but there is a chance he won't be there. Instead, why not get his tackle mate at Oklahoma in Wanya Morris?
Both guys played well in college, but Harrison is obviously better. Morris though isn't bad and still has a ton of room to grow into something special.
He allowed just two sacks last year for an offense that had a scrambling quarterback. He has never allowed more than two sacks in a season and has played 24 games in his college career.
With Andrew Wylie now in Washington with Eric Bieniemy, the Chiefs will be forced to rely on Lucas Niang if they don't draft a right tackle in the draft. Niang is fine, but he is injury prone. This day two snag takes are of a huge need for cheap too.
