The National Football League has shown its support for Kansas City after a shooting at the Chiefs' Super Bowl LVIII parade and rally.
Just after 3 p.m., police reported that shots were fired around Union Station. They asked everyone in the area to leave.
According to KSHB-TV 41, the shooting occurred west of Union Station near the garage. Two people are currently detained in connection to the shooting. Multiple people are injured, with the Kansas City Fire Department releasing a statement that as many as 10 victims could have been struck in the act of violence. KC Police have confirmed that among the victims are multiple children who have been transported and are being treated at Children's Mercy Hospital.
The Mayor and Police Chief later provided an update, confirming that one person has died and there were anywhere from 10-15 who were injured.
According to Children's Mercy Hospital, they are treating 12 patients, 11 of whom are kids, and nine of them have gunshot wounds.
The team has released a statement after the tragedy.
"We are truly saddened by the senseless act of violence that occured outside of Union Station at the conclusion of today's parade and rally.
Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and all of Kansas City.
We are in close communication with the Mayor's office as well as the Kansas City Police Department.
At this time, we have confirmed that all of our prayers, coaches, staff and their families are safe and accounted for.
We thank the local law enforcement officers and first respoders who were on-scene to assist.
